Guatemala is big. Averaging around 3500m the Cuchuamatánes mountains in the northern part of the country are impressive and remote. 🚵This weekend a few hearty Guatemalans and I set off to Explore a mule-packing route by bike connecting the isolated town of Chortiz in the Nebaj region. The trail crosses strange volcanic rock fields and this particular section rose 1300m from the valley floor. 👣 This is the only access the towns in the mountains have and the steep #switchbacks made for an extreme downhill on mountain bikes!
